Phil & Frankie’s Story
Phil and Frankie have been married for over 40 years.
They have two children, Megan and Jason. They are now proud grandparents to 4 grandchildren: Matilda, Harry, Sophie and William.
During their tumultuous marriage, they have worked to create a number of successful businesses. Initially, Frankie and Phil created and ran a unique nursery called The Plant People SA. This business eventually developed into one of the largest mobile nurseries in Australia.
At about the same time, they registered another business which operated independently of the nursery. In this business, Phil and Frankie started with a basic range of cleaning products and then expanded it into a very specialised range of cleaning products specifically designed for the caravan and boating industry under the name Filko Cleaning Products.
Their reputation for quality products was well known throughout the caravaning industry. Phil and Frankie have continued to be heavily involved with the caravan and camping industry and have been members of the Queensland, New South Wales, Victorian, South Australian and Northern Territory Caravan Associations for about 15 years. Individually, Phil and Frankie hold different skills, and they seem to be able to combine them to make their business ventures successful.
Frankie’s main skill was management and coordination. Phil’s main skill was to think outside the box and find solutions for everyday problems. (Problems which we are aware of but just persevered with).
Travelling from show to show meant they were able to experience the same issues as everyone else who was travelling in a caravan or motor home.
One of the issues regularly experienced was applying the fitted sheet to the mattress.
In an RV, the bed was normally in a tight or confined space and one needed to be a contortionist in order to apply the fitted sheet. Phil created several prototypes to help make the bed, and after several modifications, ‘Tuck-a-Bed’ was born.
They then discovered it worked just as well on all-size beds at the home, including bunk beds.
In the home, similar issues exist, except the mattress is normally heavy and sits in a frame or up against a wall with bedside tables blocking easy access. Bunks were a nightmare and normally left up to the kids.
Using ‘Tuck-a-Bed’ meant either could easily make the bed without the assistance of the other. Phil and Frankie felt it was important to recognise the support and encouragement from their friends to help get ‘Tuck-a-Bed’ underway.
